‘Static’

'Static' (2019) was featured at The Holy Art Gallery London in 2022 for the 'Oppositions' exhibition. This was one of 5 artworks exhibited in a variety of materials. 'Static' was also featured at The Mercer Open exhibition in 2022 for 6 months as part of a group exhibition.

'Static' is a piece made just before Covid first hit the UK. The piece is named static to illustrate a sense of endless time passing; a glass ball in motion magnifies the infamous TV screen from analogue television, halting time into a permanent state of freeze. It was named static after the soft buzzing and crackling sound the TV surface makes when you put your ear to it, that energy radiates across the piece in the garish vivid colours and the posed hand forever frozen in position.

This piece was a joy to make; years on from Covid and the accidental parallels it evokes remind me to stop and appreciate the energy infused within it, lost to a time of tragedy. This piece wasn't made because of Covid, but ironically just before the first lockdown was announced. 'Static' is Oil and Acrylic on board.
